I went to the Met in NYC to hear and see Philip Glass' opera, "Satyagraha," inspired by the life of Mahatma Gandhi in South Africa. Three hours and fifteen minutes of music and singing. The most amazing experience was to look at the director. I have rarely seen a man who can go so deeply into music. He had the most graceful and yet precise gestures, holding together a small ensemble and a choir and riding the changes bewteen 5/4, 9/4 and 7/4 time signatures. A real master. At the end of the opera, Philip Glass was invited on stage. He had the standing ovation of the full house. A remarkable composer. More info on this production:
